One of the original members of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention, saxophonist/vocalist Jim “Motorhead” Sherwood, passed away Dec. 25. He was 69.
Befriending Zappa while they were both in high school in 1956, Sherwood went on to appear on every Mothers of Invention’s album, including the posthumous Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Weasels Ripped My Flesh. He also acted in the movies 200 Motels, Video From Hell, and Uncle Meat. The man was involved with a lot of great, innovative, and eccentric music and cinema.
Weirdomusic.com has an obit here. RIP, Jim Sherwood.
