NPR's music blog wanted to find out if, in fact, Drake really "run[s] Toronto." So they called up a New Yorker fact checker. New Yorker fact checkers are notorious badasses (and if you have a subscription, you should read this piece about them in their own magazine).
From the Drake post:
The easiest way to fact-check a Whitmanesque claim like "I am Toronto," was to call Dave Bakula, a senior vice-president for entertainment analytics at Nielsen Entertainment, and find out how Drake's sales in Toronto compare to those in other cities. But first, to fill in the picture, I called people and organizations likely to know and understand different aspects of the "schismatic" city.
Now that is some music writing I can really get behind. FACTS!!!
