What Song Should Be Seattle's Hockey Team's Goal Song?

I want this to be happening in Seattle.

There are rumors and whispers and maybe-plans to build a new arena in Seattle, which could mean we would get not only an NBA team but also an NHL team. Hockey in Seattle? YES PLEASE! Nothing is certain, of course, and our dreams could be crushed any minute, but that doesn't stop me from contemplating all the possibilities.

For instance, since Seattle has such a rich music community (past and present), I think we could have a really killer score song, which would play every time the team gets a goal.

Sadly, whenever the Nashville Predators (my boys!) score, the stadium blasts "I Like It, I Love It" by Tim McGraw. Ugh. The Vancouver Canucks play "Electric Worry" by Clutch. Boston Bruins, the current Stanley Cup champs, play "Kernkraft 400 (Sport Chant Stadium Remix)" by Zombie Nation. We can beat, that, Seattle.

What about "Louie, Louie"? That song has a lot of history here and a whole stadium of people could sing along as it plays. Or maybe a Hendrix tune? That might be weird. I don't know if Hendrix and hockey go together. I also don't think Nirvana would be appropriate. We could go with something more contemporary, of course. I think it'd be rad to blast Murder City Devils's "Boom Swagger Boom."

The instant the puck goes into the net the goal horn would blast through the stadium and everyone would start yelling and clapping "Boom, swagger swagger, boom boom, swagger, BOOM BOOM BOOM!"

So say Seattle DOES get a hockey team: What do you think would be an awesome goal song?

Oh, wait, does it have to be local? How about Dead Moon's "54-40 or Fight"? Or is Portland not local enough? Maybe you could save it for when the Canucks are in town.

It doesn't HAVE to be local. I just think it'd be kind of cool if it was.

You're better off soliciting a modern band to record something. When Dallas hijacked the Minnesota North Stars, they hijacked the remaining strands of Pantera to record a metal Stars theme. It's stupid, but way better than your average jock jam.

I think that I prefer an old school horn (not siren), and allow the fans to cheer, rather than have the music pumped up so loud the team can't appreciate the volume of the cheers.

Knobtheunicorn, I second that emotion. The opening guitar riff of "Barracuda" would be perfect.

If we're going non-local, "Pump it Up" by Elvis Costello would work well, since it combines up-tempo celebration and a hipster semi-non-mainstream artist.

There is nothing at all wrong with the Dallas Stars goal song. In fact, it's one of my favorite songs; I just don't get to hear it that much thanks to the Stars general sucktasticness and living in this hockeyless town.

That said, find a local band made up of some hockey fans and have them record something truly tasteless and offensive. Then play it loud enough that no one will ever be able to understand the words.

This old school hockey fan is with @5, I'd like an old school horn for goals like a real hockey city.

@4 When Dallas hi-jacked the North Stars Pantera was actually at their ever-lovin' peak. 93-94 was between Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven. FWIW.

If we rename the Phoenix Coyotes to the Seattle Foxes, then we could have "Foxy Lady" by Jimi Hendrix be the goal song.

I could write some hard minor power chords to

We love Megan
Yes we do
We love Megan
Now fuck you

And then you could add the name of the NHL Asshole of the Week, and if by some miracle there wasn't one this week, "Gary Bettman" will do.

@13: Pantera recorded the Dallas Stars song in 1999, if you really need a timeline on that one.
