I can't imagine many Line Out readers regularly check out XXL or Ebony online so, real quick: Todd Shaw, who's made a long, storied, and hugely influential career out of portrying the pimping he came up around, talks with the queen dream hampton*, who you'd better already know about, about some fucked up repugnant shit he was responsible for. You have to read it.
Following the massive outcry that resulted after he participated in a XXL.com video blog that offered young boys disturbing "advice" on touching young girls (which he followed up with a less-than-satisfactory apology), rapper Too $hort asked to speak with writer dream hampton because she'd publicly joined a group of women, We Are The 44%. Here they talk feminism, accountability, rape culture and traumatizing playground "games."
Know that dream has been doing this for years, "confronting culture with loving criticism", in this case very tough love. I'll admit I have a tendency to go militant when people that have no connection to hiphop want to demonize folks within it, even if I agree in spirit; I don't think there's any wrong way to call out injustices you see, but I'll take dream's example over a million rants from folks that may lack her same understanding. God bless you Ms. hampton.
*RESPECT THE LOWERCASE.
