Former Seattle DJ/Musician Aaron Bolton Found Dead in Elliott Bay

Posted by on Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 8:47 AM

Aaron Bolton was driving from his home in Missoula, Montana to the Seattle club Re-bar Sunday to pick up new speakers for the Badlander/Palace venue he co-ran with Chris Henry (they both owned the Ear Candy record store, too). Tragically, Bolton never made it to his destination; his body was found in the water near Pier 57 in Elliott Bay at 7 am Monday. According to reports by KOMO and the Missoula Independent, police found no evidence of foul play or trauma. Bolton was 36.

Aaron Bolton was a skilled drummer and keyboardist for the rock band Mines and an accomplished DJ/producer of techno. (You can hear Mines music here. You can download the album for free, but any amount you pay will go to Bolton's family to help cover funeral costs.) In the early ’00s, he occasionally performed live with renowned Berlin-via-Seattle producer Bruno Pronsato. Bolton is also credited with coining the name “Decibel” for Seattle’s world-class electronic-music festival of that name. RIP, Aaron Bolton.

Wow, unreal. I remebber Aaron from Mines and hanging with Bruno back in the day. He was such a sweet, welcoming guy. Really sad.

This is a truly tragic loss. Aaron was a huge asset to both Seattle's and Missoula's independent music culture. He will be missed dearly.

Sadly, Aaron, I never got to meet you being all these years in Germany. I was hoping to get over to see you and my "other" nephew in Montana this summer. Your mother who is married to my brother is about the sweetest woman I have ever known. My prayers to her and all the family and friends. God rest your soul. Peace from Uncle Jimmy in Germany

Aaron was a magnificent human being with talent that was so deep within him in the music world. He was definitely my inspiration growing up playing music in Missoula during my days at university. Many of good drumming jams that I will never forget. Super tragic loss. I hope he is safe with the angels and now will be one more angel to help protect and guide us. May you always beat to your own drum Aaron....forever missed!
