One Year Til We Dead

New cloud-rap sounds:

Robb Bank$ hails from Coral Springs, Florida; he appears to be loosely affiliated (everybody's that nowadays, huh?) with Miami's lofi bedroom drug-rap terror SpaceGhostPurrp, scion of the Raider Klan (I will not use those stupid glyphs). Present are all the current signifiers of young-fast cool: grills, smoke, lean. Other things indicate some unabashed nerd shit: Pokemon cards, vintage digital Casio watches, references to Aesop Rock (as opposed to that other guy).

Right off the bat, with him rapping over the dramatic Clams Casino instrumental "Gorilla," you'd be forgiven for thinking Bank$ might have some ASAP Rocky influence—or maybe not, because he seems rather sensitive to the comparison. Understandable, since no other tracks on his solid mixtape, Calendars, really sound similar, and in fact, Robb seems to be taking shot after deliberate shot in Rocky's direction during it's duration.

He starts a recent interview by emphatically insisting his music isn't "Trillwave"—a thing nobody ever really thought was real, but is definitely what LiveLoveASAP has listed as its genre in iTunes. Later he claims that he has no problems with them boys.

Then you hear him on Calendars chanting "you just a silly muthafucka, pussy what you reppin," mocking Rocky's well-known mantra. Perhaps he's caught up in whatever enmity exists between Harlem's new face and SpaceGhost, who until fairly recently was close to the ASAP Mob, producing songs for Rocky until ASAP dismissed the Raider Klan on a David Banner song. Swag? No? Sure.
