The Darcys Respectfully Rough Up Steely Dan's Aja

Posted by on Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 9:47 AM

Does the world really need an interpretation of Steely Dan’s 1977 smooth-jazz-pop paragon, Aja? Probably not, but Toronto band the Darcys have done a magnificent job of staying mostly true to the originals while embellishing them with psychedelic extrapolations and artfully smudging Steely Dan’s neurotically pristine textures. I, for one, am feeling this skewed homage. Cranky perfectionists Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (probably) would grudgingly approve.

You can freely download Aja here.
