Also Tonight in Music: Filastine @ Chop Suey

Posted by on Sun, Apr 8, 2012 at 1:50 PM

Our old globetrotting, bass-loving buddy Filastine returns to Chop Suey tonight to flaunt, among other things, his new full-length, £00T (Post World Industries). The former Infernal Noise Brigade member—now based in Barcelona—has prepared another loaded joint full of mutations of polyglot international genres (cumbia, moombahton, dubstep, hiphop etc.), and cross-stitched them with elements from myriad indigenous folk musics. Filastine has earned his United Nations eclecticism through diligent sonic legwork rather than obsessive mouse clicking. The result is visceral, disorienting exotica to which you can shake your dreads with a vengeance.

Also on the bill: Heyoka, Tonzafun!, and Ghostplay.
