Monster Planet Hails 2nd Anniversary With Comp and Performance Tonight @ Can Can

Posted by on Mon, Apr 9, 2012 at 3:46 PM

The Monster Planet monthly turns 2 tonight at Can Can, and to mark the occasion, co-organizer Gel-Sol (aka Andy Reichel*) has collated tracks from its many contributors into a 90-minute megamix of mind-warping ambient/drone turbulence titled Monster Planet - Year One.

If you’ve been paying attention these last 24 months, you know that the Monster Planet concept involves a battalion of keyboardists/synthesists improvising before horror and sci-fi B movies while patrons drink absinthe and other libations. It’s definitely one of the most surreal, potentially hallucinogenic nights out in town.

You can get an inkling of what goes down by listening to Monster Planet – Year One, which includes brain-tickling, aqua-stellar sounds from area musicians such as Brian Oblivion, Leave Trace, disconnecteddot, Derek Linaman, Eric Moon, Miniature Airlines, the Naturebot, Jon Carr, Electrosect, Will Mempa, Gel-Sol, and others.

Can Can, 94 Pike St # B, 9 pm, free, 21+.

*Disclosure: I DJ a bimonthly with Reichel and others called Prog!
