Portland-via-Cleveland guitarist/bassist Mark McGuire is one of the underground’s rising stars through his prodigious solo output, his work with the trio Emeralds, and with Spencer Clark in Inner Tube. He’s justly renowned for his cosmic turbulence and pastoral blissouts in the first two guises and for the sublime surf-rock kitsch of the latter. McGuire recently made a mix for self-titledmag.com that allows a peak into his sonic inspirations—and it’s a wonderful, more-festive-than-expected listen for its own sake, too. (Tracklist after the cut.)

Mark McGuire performs at Debacle Fest Fri. May 4 at Black Lodge.
