There's a new dream-pop group out of San Francisco called the bilinda butchers, who are, yes, named after the My Bloody Valentine guitarist/vocalist who isn't Kevin Shields. They have an EP out tomorrow called regret, love, guilt, dreams. It's a dulcet, slightly doleful wisp of shoegaze-y beauty, but it doesn't even come close to MBV's prowling noise flame-outs and galvanizing dynamics. Not that the bilinda butchers are necessarily going for that style, but you know people will be comparing them to MBV, a situation that almost never turns out well for the disciples. Nevertheless, regret, love, guilt, dreams has its share of delicate pleasures.
You can also check out non-EP track "hai bby" here.
Press release after the cut.
the bilinda butchers, who take their name from the My Bloody Valentine singer/guitarist, are a dream pop duo from San Francisco, CA. Comprised of songwriters Michal and Adam, who met as adolescents, the bilinda butchers' inception coincided with the pair's first attempts at songwriting together in their mid-teens.
Their musical influences range from The Radio Dept. to Air to The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and they also seek inspiration from a wide variety of films and books. Their debut EP, regret, guilt, love, dreams was self-released in 2011 and was met with critical acclaim from local press and the blogosphere. The pair have recently wrapped up work on their followup EP, titled goodbyes, and are now writing their first full-length record as well as playing shows in the Bay Area.
