New Jersey’s Com Truise (Seth Haley) is streaming the track “Open” off his upcoming Ghostly International release In Decay. The album is a collection of early recordings and rarities. It's a viewfinder back to a time of 80s Casio 8-bit wonder. “Open” opens with a cloud of aqua-blue synth combing down over a synsonic kick-snare footprint. Then the grandest of a tom fill descends. Think of it – Thriller was in the charts, Flashdance with Jennifer Beals (and her body double) was in theaters. The He-Man cartoon grazed on latchkey children’s minds. Kajagoogo happened. People played Donkey Kong. The Chicken McNugget was invented. Martina Navrátilová dominated women’s tennis. James Bond was Octopussy. The 1:50 mark of “Open” is where its links come together. Hi-hat and ride sounds stamp out a Cruising speed icebreaker. Momentum chunks and gains through a delayed Technicolor synth pattern until washing out in the foam of a lighter blue, amorphous end.
