What's the Best Misfits* Song EVER?

Posted by on Tue, Jul 3, 2012 at 12:45 PM

Some have laughed at him carrying cat litter, some have chuckled at him listing off his book collection. His tough guy demeanor makes the joking easy, and his spat of onstage histrionics make him a guy people love to loathe. But when it comes to the classic era of the Misfits, it can't be denied that he wrote some of the best songs ever.

My personal favorite is the second side of the Horror Business single, which includes a seamless segue between "Teenagers From Mars" and "Children In Heat." Really though, I can't think of a Misfits song that I don't like, save for the post Danzig-era stuff, which really isn't even the Misfits.

So here's our chance to decide which is the best of all of those songs. Then when future generations interweb search for their introduction to the Misfits, our list will appear and guide them gently. I personally think that Danzig's lunkhead behavior is actually a brilliant performance artist ruse which will appear as highlights on a limited edition DVD eventually.

I'm not that interested in the results, but it was entertaining/disturbing to read through the list and recall how each of these songs went. Gonna have to have an Independence Day of the Dead Misfits Listening Party now. thanks?

I'm a "Hybrid Moments" guy myself, sidenote: the Misfits cover band I had in highschool was named "Teenagers From Mars", I wanted to be called "Children In Heat" but got out-voted.

"Where Eagles Dare" transcends the schtick, a solid boast and stroll, the way that Fear The Record is goddamn great rock and roll even when it's not (maybe especially when it's not) trying to "be punk."

I kind of think "Where Eagles Dare" will take this poll. That's the most popular song, yeah? Simply for that chorus, it really gets into the head.

Probably where eagles dare. But there's not a skippable song in the bunch.

Too bad the guy is such a douchebag.

I picked Hybrid Moments here, but Samhain's Archangel would get my vote for best Danzig song ever; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7s6yX7lS…

all you Hybrid moments people: What is it like to be so wrong? I totally understand Where Eagles Dare, it is a fine song. But Bullet is clearly the greatest thing they ever did. TV Casualty should also be doing better in this poll.

Also- how does Death Comes Ripping have zero votes at this point? Sad.

Bullet problem: Spawned name of Texas Is The Reason. That's a bad scene.

@9- well, sure, that is a total mess. but on the list of terrible shit spawned by The Misfits that hardly even registers.

I know a lot of people listen to Misfits while drunk exclusively, so I want to clarify for poll-accuracy here that Where Eagles Dare is "i ain't no god damned son of a bitch", She is "she loves naked sin, yeah, where eagles dare (sic)" and Night Of the Living Dead is "wooooooah-ohhhh-ohhh-ohhhhh... NOOOOOO.....OH!"

There were too many choices on this list. You should run a runoff poll of the top five or six songs.

I voted for Bullet, but I'm honestly surprised that Halloween garnered only two votes. Is that one just everyone's second or third favorite song?

Return of the Fly should get a couple votes just for being the only Misfits song to mention guinea pigs.

Erdman: I don't know how you can write about Danzig and not mention when he got knocked out. That summed him up as a man (though not as a songwriter).

late pass...

I was torn on a few songs including Bullet, Fly, Devil's Whorehouse, Some Kinda Hate...but I voted Hybrid Moments because there was a tie between it and Where Eagles Dare, which is a song I simply don't care about any longer. as Matt said, a run-off would be nice.
