Also Tonight: Lower Dens

Posted by on Fri, Jul 6, 2012 at 12:54 PM

Lower Dens is a more recent act to spring from Baltimore's fecund art rock scene. Their new album, Nootropics, has been holding steady on my "Most Played" list, and is a cyclone of atmospheric, guitar-driven instrumentalism, Krautrock/motorik rhythm sensibilities, and Jana Hunter's haunting voice. Hunter on her own as a singer/songwriter is absolutely captivating live, so I have no doubt that the rest of the band is just going to sweep her voice right up and transport us all to some pocket in the upper atmosphere that is pure crystalizing serenity, keep us at cruising speed, then bring us back down to Earth safe and sound.

Lower Dens play with No Joy and Alan Resnick tonight at Neumos. Check out the video for "Brains" after the jump.
