Nu Sensae Ules-Ray

Posted by on Fri, Jul 20, 2012 at 6:56 PM

The coveted 4pm time slot for Block Party's Vera Stage kicked off with Vancouver noise children Nü Sensae (no one knows why that umlaut can't properly adorn the "u" in the title, sorry France). Whoa. I was barely prepared for how heavy they were, even after I'd been listening to their Tea Swamp Park 7" on bandcamp. They played a 20 minute set that bled from start to finish with awesome animosity. Bassist and lead screech master, Andrea Lukic reminded me of the terrifying girl who made you jealous in high school by effortlessly skipping class, smoking without coughing, and knowing more about punk music and fashion than your parents would ever allow you to. Screaming vocals, cracking drums, and the whole green hair/flannel-on-flannel look begs the almost unavoidable unge-gray reference that I just don't want to do. OKAY FINE I DO! IRVANA-NAY and OLE-HAY! In the best way possible (hay)!

Flannel jealousy.

If you weren't raring to go at 4pm today, you can catch them at Bumbershoot soon. They also have a new album called Sundowning coming out on Suicide Squeeze any minute.
