The woman- or girl- who is spray painting in the third picture is writing "GIRL ARMY." Which is why I titled this post with that headline. I even ASKED them what they would like me to title it and that was their request. It is her words- not mine.
I love this! It always saddens me how the word feminist has been used to create a war between the two genders, but I like to think that only extremists think that way.
For the majority of people, feminist means equality between men and women, because both men and women are great. Let's work togeeeeeether.
As far as pushing "women" over "girls," the funny part to me is that the complaint usually comes from those that pride themselves on exposing the most minute manifestations of privilege, without any examination into how pushing "women" in every possible situation privileges scientific, academic, and technical language over more colloquial language.
And, as pointed out here, the paternalism of protecting the interested parties...from themselves?
