Unearthed: Impossibly Rare Nirvana Videos

Posted by on Sun, Aug 26, 2012 at 7:49 PM

There seems to be an argument amongst YouTube users about the account named Curmodgeon. Some people claim that the account holder is the savior of Nirvana's legacy and could possibly be Krist Novoselic or a reincarnated Kurt Cobain. Others claim he's a member of a highly private Nirvana bootleg group, who has broken an oath to not leak material to the public.

The mud slinging in the comments sections are an entertaining read while listening to the ridiculously rare footage provided by Curmodgeon. My favorites include Ted Ed Fred live at the Community World Theater in 1988, the 24 minute home shot tour footage from 1990, live footage of Rignall Hall in Olympia from 1990, and the complete O.K. Hotel show from 1991. Oh man, there's mountains more. Sift through it here.

This guy is not anyone special, he doesn't surface any recordings himself. Every single thing he uploads comes from the Nirvana trading community at If you want to give credit to anyone it should be Mike Ziegler and Kris Sproul at THEY are the guys who surface and publicly share around 80% of Nirvana material, not Curmodgeon. He just uploads it to YouTube and takes credit.

He isn't part of any "private" Nirvana group. He's just some dude who goes to the LiveNirvana forums, which is a non-profit trading community where everything is available for free, and downloads the shows. He's basically reaping the efforts of the community and making it out that he's the one who's setting the material free. Anyone is welcome to register and be a part of the community, in no way is it private or have any oath to not leak any material. That's the whole point of the community, to get the material to the fans.

Shows how much research the author bothered to put in regarding the trading community before posting this... C'mon over to LiveNirvana and join the fun!
