Song / Bumbershoot / Upcoming Ty Segall - "The Hill"

Just in time for his appearance at Bumbershoot, Ty Segall has released the first song off his upcoming album, Twins, and it's a grower. Or at least it was for me. I disliked it at first listen, but by the second go-round, I embraced it. The folk-oriented vocal at the beginning really threw me off, although it sounds more like the Segall of old once the thing kicks into full gear (the guest vocalist is Brigid Dawson of Thee Oh Sees).

As for these otherworldly images, it looks like he's simultaneously referencing David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust persona and The Man Who Fell to Earth, in which Bowie played a white-eyed alien (there's even a song called "Handglams").

I don't have a pass for this weekend's festival, so I hope somebody else takes a lot of pictures. I haven't seen Segall give a bad performance yet, and I doubt Bumbershoot will be any different—same goes for the Dirtbombs. Segall plays on Sept 3 at 3:15pm. Drag City releases "The Hill" on Sept 4 and Twins on Oct 9.
