I recognize that rainbow cat material in photo 6-my mom sewed things out of it back in the 90's

I should help her dig out any old stuff she still has around and sell it to hipsters at top profit margins before it's too late...

Does anyone know what those dark splotches of grime are on every sidewalk in every city in America? I live in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles, and the sidewalks are, comparatively speaking, spotless until you get to intersections and all four corners are covered with these little circle of shmutz - so it has to connected to human activity, right?
