Berlin-based pianist Nils Frahm is offering a free download of his new album, Screws, a nine-song work that he executed with nine fingers, as his thumb was in a cast at the time. Frahm violated doctor’s orders to make this album; the least you can do is absorb its delicate beauty and meditative nobility. At last year's Substrata festival, Frahm's set was a striking highlight, one of the most galvanizing exhibitions of minimalist/maximalist piano sorcery I've ever witnessed. Thom Yorke’s a Frahm fan, too, for what it’s worth (a lot, actually). Check out Screws here.
Nils Frahm plays Decibel Festival’s Optical 4: Discreet Tones showcase, Sat. Sept. 29 at Broadway Performance Hall with Orcas, Sylvain Chauveau, and CFCF.
