Maggie Nelson wrote, “We haven’t heard enough about the female gaze…about the scorch of it, with the eyes staying in the head.” I like to think lust keeps my eyes in my head, though it makes me wary of things that don’t inspire lust. Probably the most dangerous things are not disgusting, but neutral. I remember the things a particular girl listed to stop herself from coming, “Tropical fish! Varnish! England!” She must have been fearless, or already blind. If her eyes were artificial, they were very well-made.
