Today's Significance In Rap

Posted by on Wed, Oct 17, 2012 at 2:34 PM

It's Eminem's birthday!

I remember the first time I heard "My Name Is" and "Guilty Conscience" in the New Joints section of HipHopSite, roaring at like 8kbps; I was hooked. Also: Eminem's "I'm Still #1" freestyle on the Cali Kingz mixtape, which got major play from me—and Em's scene-stealing cameo on Shabaam Sadeeq's "5 Star Generals", which I'm sure I bought off of SandboxAutomatic, which is still selling rap nerds wax to this day. I played The Eminem Show to absolute death; I don't know what happened to that guy, but I generally believe that Eminem peaked around the time of the Invasion 3 mixtape, when he roasted Benzino alive. Everything that's happened since is really best left unsaid.

Being that it's 10/17, it's officially 1017 BRICK SQUAD DAY! Spend your day listening to rap from those charmers Gucci Mane (who's Trap God drops in hours—check the countdown), Waka Flocka Flame, OJ Da Juiceman, Wooh Da Kid, and Ice Burgandy. RIP Slim Dunkin. The Trap Is Back... On Line Out.

Here's Gucci's new song, dissing the shit out of Young Jeezy; I first heard them both on the same song, and that song would lead to a death and a rivalry that hasn't died yet.
