I've written about MISTER Billy Davis before, a house writer/producer at Chess Records who's one-riff, go nowhere pounder "Stanky" I FUGGING LERVE!! Buuuuuuut what about the LADY with the same namesake? Yup...what about MISS BILLIE DAVIS?

Oh, DAMN!! Ms. Billie Davis, her real name Carol Hedges, was from Woking, Surrey...NATCH, and in the ’60s she had a bit of a chart run in the UK with "I Want You to Be My Baby" and her version of the Exciters' "Tell Him." By the '70s, tho' she was still performing, touring, and recording, her string of hits petered out. Tho' you might not know her name, her '60s catalog is as strong as any female singer of the time, which is saying a lot. Sigh. I just love her to pieces.

Sidenote: A few of her '60s sides were issued on local labels Jerden and Burdette.
