FREQ NASTY'S GOT THE DANCE FLOOR ON DREADLOCK
If FreQ Nasty's music were as complicated and crazy as his hair (a tangled turban of dreadlocks), he might be one of my favorite electronic-music producers. Alas, the Nasty one's sound is more crowd-friendly than that scenario suggests. "Not Givin' In," his new single on Skint Records (home of many of the bangingest Big Beat artists during the '90s), is a digital dancehall/jungle hybrid featuring MCs Tippa Irie and Solar Lion. It's kind of weak compared to FreQ's earlier, wonkier, funky-breaks releases on Botchit & Scarper. But maybe you can console yourself with his remix of Die Antwoord's "I Fink U Freaky." Also, why isn't FreQ playing Q? Missed opportunity. With Nit Grit, Andreilien, and guests. Neumos, 8 pm, $18, 16+.
