Happy Birthday, Dick Wolf!

Richard Anthony "Dick" Wolf celebrates his 66th year on Earth today. Dick Wolf is a master of television crime suspense, who created the timeless classics Miami Vice and Law & Order.

But really, we're not here to talk about Dick Wolf. We're here to talk about the excellent theme song for Law & Order. There are a few different versions of this gripping classic, though the basic structure is mostly the same. Episodes of the standard Law & Order feature a somewhat tame theme song, while episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit get a little more wild with some heavy guitar shreds. Law & Order: Trial by Jury is a whole lot more dramatic. Listen to the bunch of them below:

The main Law & Order theme was written by Mike Post, who also created the theme songs for the Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and a bunch of others. He also wrote the Northern Soul stomper "Afternoon of the Rhino." Geez, what a talent!

"Dick Wolf is so old, he's had more birthdays than there are Law & Order episodes!" - Amy Dials, 2012

Mike Post wrote just about every tv theme song that is good enough for you to remember. The Greatest American Hero. Magnum P.I. CHiPs. The A-Team.

Nice one, Derek! I'm about the biggest Dick Wolf nerd you could ever hope to meet, but you couldn't pay me to watch Chicago Fire. Man, that looks awful--even with the great Eamonn Walker from Oz (whose standards seem to have slipped as of late).
