Meet Tony Colton (& his Big Boss Band):
Obvs, Colton and crew were not exactly snotty nerds in rural Iowa playing goofed up black music to pull girls from the jocks, but GODDAMN... that opening, now THAT is some seering fuzz guitar. You ain't gonna beat it. Then the narrative, who is this motherfucker... DAVID LEE ROTH?! Damn, baller. Also: (ahem) that break!!! Yeah, so like, fucking 1966, y'all.
Colton's career sprung from London club scene, specifically Friday night's The Flamingo Allnighter. The Flamingo was primarily a jazz club, but Friday night from 7pm till 6am Saturday was reserved for R&B, and Colton was deep into R&B. It was him sussing Georgie Fame and Zoot Money when he became a writer/producer; soon after he began forming backing groups to play and record. In time, he settled on being a nearly full time producer, working with Taste & Yes. He still had groups though, like supergroup Head, Hands & Feet... with Alvin Lee, no less.
