It's January 14th, 2013 And You're in a Rad Garage Band - GFY - The Primates

Posted by on Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Now HERE is some cool beat-sounding garage from Astoria, Queens.

Ain't no beating the Primates' guitar tone. They had two 45s, both were on the Marko label. The flip to "Knock On My Door," "She," is the most beat-sounding track of their 4 sides. The inflection almost sounds Dutch.

Also: Oddly their two 45s aren't out of reach for low-rent record nerds; both rate less than $200 each.

Haha. I always assumed GFY stood for Go Fuck Yourself, and I thought these posts, though informative were a little hostile as a result. Just realized it probably means Good For You. A little less harsh.

Our definitions of "low-rent" differ wildly, high roller.

@2. Me too. I theorized that someone MN loves must be dating someone in a garage band...hence the go fuck yourself

@1 In due time, Mr. Burns, in due time!

@3 Dave, when it comes to RARE garage $200 IS low rent, the big $$ 45s are keeping a slow march towards $10K, EASY!

"Knock on my door" was a quantity record for years....the other one is much rarer. Makes little difference to the post 1980s collectors though. I'd guess there are 200 or so garage 45s that go for $K and beyond.
