The Flaming Lips have issued a new song that will not be on their forthcoming album The Terror (out April 2 on Warner Bros.). "The Sun Blows Up Today" starts out like one of the veteran Oklahoma band's most lyrically and musically simplistic tunes ever, but the hammering Mo Tucker-like beats and garish, splattery keyboard palpitations and striations gradually intensify as it progresses. The conjugation of the relentlessly throbbing music and the visuals' chaotic explosion of colors and shapes makes this clip seem like a fever-dream collab between Boredoms and Paper Rad. Yow, and furthermore, za! Yoshimi battling the pink robots seems awfully quaint and restrained by comparison.
You can also hear this song in a TV ad by Hyundai that will appear during this thing called, uh, the Super Bowl, on Feb. 3.
