Happy Birfdaze Steve Marriott

Steve Marriott was the front man/singer/guitar player for the incredibly influential, and extraordinarily English, group the Small Faces and then, later, a group which began as rural hippies only to become boogie giants in the '70s, Humble Pie. He died in a house fire, April of 1991 and today would'a been his 66th birthday.

That is Humble Pie, including member Peter Frampton fresh from his tenure in the Herd, getting back to the country with the Yardbirds first hit, "For Your Love." If you have the time I recommend watching the entire Marriott bio, Life And Times Of Steve Marriott; it's worth it.

If you ever get a chance to see the rare 1963 David Hemmings pop movie "Live It Up!", you'll see Marriott as a member of the band. Like most of its ilk it's a bit thin but has a lot of period charm, and the music's triffic. There's a sequel, "Be My Guest" too. He's supposedly in the Peter Sellers flick "Heavens Above", one of Sellers's best roles, but you'll have to look sharp to see Marriott.
