Very great British electronic-music brainiacs Autechre are releasing a new album March 5 titled Exai, but you can download it now for $11.99-$12.99.
You can hear samples from its 17 tracks here. From what I can gather from these 30-second glimpses of the record, Exai has everything loyal fans (I am one) have come to expect from Sean Booth and Rob Brown, including calculus-level rhythms, severely warped textures, the odd, glancing, beautiful melody, and a sense that these guys spent insane hours and effort constructing a hermetic sound world that will only coalesce and make some kind of sense in your feeble mind five years hence. (Also, "Recks On" sounds like it might be the funkiest Ae cut ever.) No, Exai doesn't sound anything like Incunabula or Amber.
As Giorgio Corroder (@Happy_Loam) said on Twitter today, Autechre release dates should be declared national holidays. Seriously.
