They look like the kind of act more likely to end up on In the Red, Sympathy for the Record Industry, or even Bloodshot, home of the Detroit Cobras and the Gore Gore Girls, except Merge has been branching out as of late, a development I'm happy to support, since I prefer garage punk to, say, folk-pop. And this track's a winner (front woman Carla Wolff's got a voice).
Merge releases the Barren Girls' four-track debut EP, Hell Hymns, on April 2.
