It's February 26th, 2013 And You're in a Rad Garage Band - GFY - The Daybreakers

This group of Daybreakers were from Iowa City, Iowa. Their song "Psychedelic Siren" is now regarded as a classic, it's not hard to hear why! However, I don't quite find that siren to be pyschedelic tho'...heh heh!!

The band reformed in the '70s and were known as Cruisin'. The singer, Max Allan Collins, went on to become a mystery novelist; his Road to Perdition was made into a Hollywood film in 2002!! The Iowa Daybreakers had no connections to the Ohio (Billy Dawn and) Daybreakers, that groups seems to have only recorded a demo, never made any records.

Crusin' is still out there pumping out the garage rock, and Max is still singing Psychedelic Siren whenever it wanders back onto the setlist. Next year will mark our 40th anniversary as Crusin', and The Daybreakers made their way into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Thanks for helping to introduce the band and the song to new audiences! -Jim Van Winkle, guitar
