One of my favorite Seattle keyboardists, Noel Brass Jr. of the soul/funk/psych trio Afrocop, has a new track that deserves at least eight minutes out of your hectic day. “Centipede’s March” has a cosmic creep in its stride, conflating Herbie Hancock/Chick Corea/Joe Zawinul meditative spaciness (circa In a Silent Way) with Head/Nik Raicevic’s stellar bleep. The track lifts you out of your mundane routine into somewhere much more tranquil and intriguing. I’m on my third listen now, and if I don’t stop soon, I’m going to end up blowing a lot of deadlines.
Afrocop’s next show is March 20 at the Triple Door’s Musicquarium.
