Hey Marseilles Makes an Album

Posted by on Fri, Mar 1, 2013 at 10:22 AM

I can hardly log onto SpaceBox lately without running into five or seven people posting this Hey Marseilles promotional video. Here are the unattributed quotes that have gone with the posts:

"This totally staves off waiting for the next Wes Anderson. Killer job, dudes!!"

"I think I have watched this 90 times."

"I could watch this video a 100 more times. Hey Marseilles makes an amazing tour promo and hilarity ensues. Wonderful work Nick Simmons & Justin Henning!"

"This is the best thing you will see all day and you will watch it over and over and over."

Not to sound petty, but I just was just involved in a lengthy conversion involving the grammar of the video title. I can't say that it's incorrect with much certainty, I ditched most of my high school English classes for the beautiful shores of Lake Erie.

In American usage, collective nouns take the singular -- "the band is setting up". In Britain, they take the plural -- "the band are not quite right". Hey Marseilles as a band name is a singular collective noun; they're not "The Rutles", which would be plural. I support "Makes an album" for these reasons.

In-store at Easy Street at 7 before the show, FYI.
