Sparks to Make Seattle Live Debut April 22 at Neptune

Posted by on Mon, Mar 11, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Unbelievably for a band that's been going since 1971, Sparks will make their first live appearance in Seattle April 22 at Neptune Theatre. An eccentrically theatrical prog-electronic-glam-pop group led by brothers Ron and Russell Mael, Sparks made a way bigger impression in the UK than they did in America, but over the decades they've built a hardcore cult following here. For the Seattle contingent of this fanbase, the long drought will finally be over next month.

TRAVIS RITTER: before leaving for a road trip from Texas to Seattle, you recently mentioned that you could, in theory, listen to Sparks for the entire duration of your journey thanks to their vast discography. thinking about that gave nightmarish visions of an interstate bloodbath out of Badlands or Kalifornia to adult-ADD-types like myself. shame on you.

this news is markedly better though.

They really never came here before? Wow. I saw them on TV so many times back in the early 1970's, I really thought they had been here.

@10 - I truly intend on there being some sort of pre-show get together. This is, after all, a BIG DEAL, especially for hardcore Sparks fans. It will probably happen at some bar in the U-District, not sure which yet. And no, to the previous commenter, I highly doubt they have played here before. For the last 20 years they have almost exclusively played the U.K. and Europe. At the height of their popularity, they mostly played in the U.K. as far as I understand it.

They've done some shows in their hometown in the last decade, the Key Club being a memorable one. Coachella? Apparently this is a keyboard/voice (no computer???), bros only tour.
