Next month Seattle's own Helms Alee are releasing a split 7" with Ladder Devils, and Pitchfork has a premier of the HA song, "Not Dot." It's good! Real good. You can hear it here. (Also: nice cover art, Nat Damm.)
And while I agree with Pitchfork, when they say that guitars and drums are "circling beneath the melody like predators," (nice) they're wrong when they say there's "a surprising hardcore burst in the middle." Helms Alee almost ALWAYS has a hardcore burst in the middle. That is not a surprise, that is their MO.
Also out today: A new Russian Circles song! It, like all Russian Circles songs, sounds like the last song you'll ever hear, as it will no doubt be playing while you're running through the woods in the middle of the night, desperately trying to escape the manic half-man/half-wolf killer who's hunting you. But he'll catch you. He always catches you.
