I gotta give it to this producer Prince of Ballard for a coupel reasons—one is his name, a fine clowning on the "King of Ballard" title that I and many others have run with in reference to Nordic rap fucker Grynch, whose polite, lutefisk-scented rhymes have delighted Vikings and many others for some years now. The other thing I've got to give to the dude is pure props for the smooth shit found on this new tape of his called Beachlife. Slapping together "Aaliyah, Rick Ross, Loleatta Holloway, Jorge Ben, Brandy, Notorious B.I.G., Marvin Gaye, Ashanti, Johnnie Taylor, Gino Vannelli, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Smokey Robinson, and Mary Wells" into this immensely chilled, breezy mixture, he's done some godly work for everybody everywhere sitting on a porch, deck, hot vinyl seats, or upon an actual beach. Don't sleep, unless you've had a few too many Silver Bullets in the sun or in a hammock or something, because this calls for all of that.
Seattle's reigning king of the summertime kick-back mixtape, however, is undoubtedly my stromie dj100Proof, a master of leisure who's been making his bones up and down the West Coast and beyond rocking house parties, weddings, and world-famous nights alike with his ear for that good-time grease. For Proof, just peep the latest edition of his Backyard BBQ series. He goes hard, I mean easy, right from jump with Sly 5th Ave's tropicalista Herb Alpert-style cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe", and only gets better from there. Stuck in the office? My advice to you: get the fuck out of your chair, lay on the floor. Listening to this gives me sensory fantasies of pinner joint smoke and In-N-Out's grilled onions on the way to Venice.
