Fiona Apple is playing in Seattle tonight! She very well could be in a bad mood because of last night's show in Portland, however. I was just reading about how she had a "break down" onstage after getting heckled by a crowd member. Her alleged breakdown was all over twitter, but when I looked into it further, it appears that only thing that happened was a rude audience member in the balcony decided to yell out a comment on her weight, “Fiona! Get healthy! We want to see you in 10 years!” To which Fiona shot back: “I am healthy! Who the fuck do you think you are? I want you to get the fuck out of here. I want the house lights on so I watch you leave!”
And then she made the lighting people turn up the house lights and had the shouter ejected (while the offending person continued shouting, “I saw you 20 years ago and you were beautiful!”) Apple was visibly upset during the remainder of the set, but I really hate when artists are called out for being having onstage "breakdowns," when really they were just showing any kind of emotion during their sets. Mish Way (from White Lung) actually addressed this a little bit in an article she wrote about Cat Power's performances "Everyone, Lay Off Chan: In Defense of Erratic Performers."
