Convexed Seattle four-piece XVIII Eyes have released the song “We Only Talk in San Francisco,” from their forthcoming album I’ll Keep You. This, their second full-length, will be out 11/12/13. It's produced by Matt Bayles and XVIII Eyes, and was recorded and mixed by Matt Bayles at Red Room Recording this past September. (Mastered at RFI by Ed Brooks.)
XVIII Eyes' singer, guitar player Irene Barber spoke about the song.
Who’s talking in San Francisco? Why can they only talk there?
Barber: It’s about two people who have history. They live apart, and San Francisco seems to always end up being their rendezvous - not necessarily on purpose. It’s just where they continuously cross paths. I can’t figure out who the characters are, and I'm not sure if I need be to be sure. They could be rehashing old shit, or maybe that old shit has been processed, and is in the past. They could be lovers, or spies. San Francisco is where they have these conversations, and can confide in each other. It’s just between them.
Does the song have anything to do with your drummer Andy King and his Star Wars Mushroom Portal?
No. But that is an epic tale that deserves to be told through song.
** XVIII Eyes will be celebrating the release of I’ll Keep You with a listening party at Moe Bar at 7:00pm on 11/7/13. The album release show is at Chop Suey on Thursday, 11/14/13 with Ships and Blue Light Curtain.
