DJ/booker Mamma Casserole (aka Michelle Smith) is planning to hold another krautrock appreication show Jan. 10, 2014 at Lo-Fi Performance Gallery. The first one occurred July 2012 at the Rat & Raven, and it was a blast. (Disclosure: I DJed that one and am doing so at this one, too, with Explorateur.) Krautrock is the not-so-nice term used to classify the outpouring of adventurous, consciousness-expanding rock made by German musicians in the late '60s and early '70s. Its influence has been reverberating in the music world's smartest realms ever since. For further investigation, you may want to check out Julian Cope's Krautrocksampler and Alan and Stephen Freeman's nearly exhaustive encyclopedia, The Crack in the Cosmic Egg.
So far, only Seattle musician Pearson M. Greer is confirmed; you should check out his excellent, shape-shifting band the Moons in June. We'll update you on the status of the lineup as the date approaches. Now enjoy this clip of Midday Veil nailing Can's "Spoon" at the Rat & Raven back in 2012.
