Hear He Whose Ox Is Gored's New Song "Cairo"

He Whose Ox Is Gored has released a new song today called “Cairo,” off their yet to be released album entitled The Camel, the Lion, the Child.

“Cairo” contains the Ox’s synth-buoyed float and crush combo. Lisa Mungo wafts a pontoon of keys out pristinely, milky, and stoic, like a watercolor of a reflection-pond at dawn. Brian McClelland’s guitar begins in the tranquility of that pond, as a morning bird might, with Kirk Hammett “Fade To Black” delicacy. Then the Ox pontoon trips a wire and McClelland sprays it full of mini-anvil buckshot and brings it down to wrought iron wreckage scraps in a cauldron of blue flame. For wrought-ness see: bassist Mike Sparks and drummer John O'Connell. McClelland’s vocals sit in a range of pain akin to the pain of someone having their chest branded by a glowing orange iron.

“Cairo” was recorded at Red Room Studio, Avast!, and ExEx Audio. Tracking by Robert Cheek with additional vocal tracking by Paurl Walsh. Mixing and mastering is by Matt Bayles. Hear more about the song, and Randall Dunn’s toys, in the He Whose Ox Is Gored Holiday Stop-Motion Ox Special.

He Whose Ox Is Gored play Saturday, Dec. 21 at Chop Suey with Grenades, Drunk Dad, and Caligula.

I wish I could get people to review my band with as many adjectives as this one. I like the song and all, but gee whiz.... Trying to turn music into a verbal description becomes a landscape of adjectives that tend to cancel each other out, like light/sound waves. Good job, HWOIG. Best of luck to you in the future... but, man.... these reviews.... **shakes head and slowly walks to Hoboken, NJ**

1--- I thought this review was very well done, very well worded. Let's hear you describe the song. Since you can obviously do it so well.

What's the name of your band? Do you suck? Maybe you would get some reviews if you didn't suck.

I loved it...until 1:37 or so. It was just beautiful sounding...then BAM!!! All that banging and growling.

Make an album off the first vibes of this track and I'll be 1'st in line.
