(Neptune) The thing about Zappa Plays Zappa—Dweezil Zappa's tirelessly touring group that pays tribute to his late father Frank's music—is that they will never run out of material, even if Dweez lives to be 100. That's because the Zappa/Mothers of Invention canon is huge, diverse, and rarely dull. For this date, ZPZ celebrate the 40th anniversary of Roxy & Elsewhere, a double live album that features some of Frank's strangest and most intricate compositions. While Dweezil won't have George Duke (RIP), Ruth Underwood, Don Preston, or Jeff Simmons in tow, he's sure to have a crack cast to execute these madly inventive songs. This should be a reverent homage to an irreverent sonic provocateur.
