"The B.A.D. Is So Good": New Track from Shabazz Palaces Side Project Chimurenga Renaissance

Posted by on Thu, Feb 6, 2014 at 1:43 PM

The ingredients will seem familiar to fans of Shabazz Palaces' work: chopped samples, thumb piano, Afro-futurist lyrics, the booming kicks and rattling claps. And yet this track, appearing on Shabazz side project Chimurenga Renaissance's upcoming album, is (dare I say it) the poppiest thing ever to emerge from their camp, a dazzling kaleidoscope of melodies and textures, girl-group backing vocals intermingling with dancehall chatter and concrete-dense rhymes. Plus, peep the shout out to Franklin High! Chimurenga Renaissance, which consists of Baba Maraire, Palaceer Lazaro, and Hussein Kalonji, will release their Erik Blood-produced album riZe vadZimu riZe on March 25.
