(Vermillion) Haunted Horses possess a clear and singular vision of doom rock, plus one of the most appropriate band names on record: their music would make the ideal backing track to that traumatic scene in The Ring when the horse goes nuts on the ferry and decides to off itself. Confrontational prog punk as imagined by a troupe of angry cave-dwelling Luddites, Haunted Horses manifest a furious onslaught of sound rarely found these days, at times channeling prime-era Liars in their cacophonies of claustrophobic angst. Noise-A-Tron travel in similar spheres, using familiarly apocalyptic tools to uniquely catastrophic ends. It’s the end of the world as we know it; may as well have the appropriate soundtrack.
