Though I've praised Quilt a time or three over the past few months, I missed their show on Monday due to a deadline. I also missed their in-studio performance on KEXP, since I was working at the time. Story of my life. (I missed Mutual Benefit's January show, too, for similar reasons.)
Fortunately, KEXP archives in-studio performances here, and the Boston outfit has just released a montage-filled video for the very groovy "Tie Up the Tides." Bathed in jewel tones, it neatly syncs up with the song. Though I have no idea whether or not they had Traffic in mind when they wrote it, the line "find my golden home" makes me think they did—I realize that "Can't Find My Way Home" comes from the Blind Faith catalog, but Steve Winwood sang for both bands—and I love the way Traffic infused folk with pop, jazz, and a deeply pastoral form of psychedelia, so I consider this a very good thing indeed. (Did I mention that I love Traffic?)
Held in Splendor is out now on Mexican Summer (orig release date: Jan 28).
