Whether or not it’s authentic or forced, there sure is a ton of love being spread today. Everywhere you go, you’ll be surrounded by flowers, chocolate, heart-shaped balloons, and glowing couples filled with the “Holiday” spirit. But for many of us, this shit just doesn’t apply. Luckily, my fellow grumps and I have a place to go where candy and flowers are replaced by breakdowns and stage dives, as Tough Love Fest 2014 takes place this entire weekend over at Studio Seven.
Much like the almighty RAIN FEST, Tough Love Fest is a yearly locally booked 3-day hardcore fest that attracts bands from all over the United States. Over the three days, tough guy hardcore reigns supreme as Earth Crisis, Death Before Dishonor, XRepresentX and Blood Stands Still will be throwing down alongside up and comers like Goliath, Rat Path and Navigator. Tonight, influential New York metal core greats Shai Hulud will be bringing the high fives and sing-alongs.
To be honest, I’m going to have to skip Sunday, as I already bought tickets to see the man, the myth, the legend, professional wrestling badass Mick Foley (aka Mankind, aka Cactus Jack) do stand up at the Parlor in Bellevue.
Reading back on this post, I’m realizing now just how much of a “bro” I sound like. Eh, fuck it, I guess. Pour me a jaeger-bomb and throw me over an Affliction shirt….I’m all in, brah!
