The Shut-In Bizarro-Pop of R. Stevie Moore

(Chop Suey) A brilliant, idiosyncratic singer/songwriter who’s influenced several eccentrics since he released his first album in 1978, R. Stevie Moore finally came out of hibernation in 2011 at age 59 to tour these United States. Looking as disheveled as you’d expect a Nashville bedroom-studio hermit to be, this proto-über-nerd played a charming and occasionally dazzling set at Vera Project that year with a full band behind him. Moore has a monstrously huge catalog of weirdly structured yet insanely catchy songs to bestow on audiences, and his between-song banter is hilarious. As the opening tune on his stellar 1978 LP Delicate Tension trumpets, Moore’s one “Cool Daddio.” With Chastity Belt and the Memories.

And here's all our recommended music events—tonight, tomorrow, this weekend, and beyond!
