This Week’s Homosexual Agenda Ticket Give Away: Two Passes to This Month's Dickslap!

Posted by on Fri, Feb 21, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Hulloooomosexuals! As you know, the 'mo-lympics—AKA RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6, featuring our own brilliant Ben Delacreme—begins at last on Monday, and we're all going to the watching party at the Century Ballroom. Right? Right.

But did you also know that our favorite monthly orgy of JELL-O shots and dancy lust is also happening? Tonight? It's Dickslap, of course, and tonight's theme is GAY OLYMPICS in keeping with the RPDR spirit. (Consider it a boozy warm up for the actual event.) As Kevin Kauer, the event's babydaddy, says,

"A little over three years ago when Dickslap started it was a direct attack against the LGBTQ discrimination from the state Liquor Board. It launched with this feature story in The Stranger, Lisa Dank performed and showered us in whip cream from her giant penis accessory. It was, and still is, amazing. Can't wait to keep the tradition going."

I’ve got TWO PASSES to tonight's Gay Olympics Dickslap. The way to get your mitts on them is simple: 1) Don’t be anyone who owes me money; 2) don't be a Republican (gross); 3) don't question the content of the JELL-O shots; 4) Email my ass (adrian at thestranger dot com)! One lucky entrant will be pulled from the hat, chosen by the fickle fingers of Fate herself.

Best of luck, dear 'mos! Best of luck!

Barsuk Records 15th Anniversary Celebration Tickets on Sale Now

Posted by on Fri, Aug 9, 2013 at 12:44 PM

This week Barsuk Records announced the lineup for their upcoming anniversary celebration—it's four days of shows, featuring many of the label's past and present stars, including Nada Surf, the Long Winters, Jesse Sykes, and so many more.

Here's the lineup:

Nada Surf (playing Let Go in its entirety) + Mates of State + Special Guests

The Long Winters (playing When I Pretend To Fall in its entirety) + David Bazan + Chris Walla + Minor Alps + Special Guests

Menomena + Maps & Atlases + Yellow Ostrich + Cymbals Eat Guitars + Special End-Of-Night Guests

Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter (playing Reckless Burning in its entirety) + Rocky Votolato + Laura Gibson (solo) + Special Guests

Tickets for individual shows are on sale now right here, but if you want to attend all the shows, I'm told four-day passes are just about sold out. They're only $60—hurry!

As for who the "special end-of-night guests" are on Saturday, I can't say. Not because I know and won't say, but because I don't know. So let the speculation begin! Death Cab? Ra Ra Riot? Say Hi? The Dismemberment Plan? WHO!?

In other Barsuk news, if you're attending Bumbershoot, be sure to make time for the 15 Years of Barsuk Records panel at the Word and Ideas stage on Sunday, September 1. Sean Nelson will host the talk, which will also feature label co-founder Josh Rosenfeld and musicians John Roderick, David Bazan, and more. It'll probably be real cool if you're a Barsuk nerd like me.
