This Weekend in Retrospect

Posted by on Sun, Nov 22, 2009 at 1:15 PM

I saw two truly great shows this weekend: Intelligence on Friday at Comet and King Khan & BBQ last night at Chop. Intelligence killed it as always—despite the loss of other guitar-player guy # 23 (or something like that). Khan and Sultan also dun quite good, and there were way too many cute garage rock girls there. Anyone have better anecdotes than me? (It wouldn't be much of a stretch.) Share them in the comments. Or just talk shit and don't sign your name (pussy).

Hipsters on Capitol Hill? In Chop Suey? Stop the presses.

KK & BBQ were a hoot, but I think I dug Those Darlins more. The Bangles if they'd been born in Kentucky.

Ben-Fest at the Morgue was fun. Ben played drums in all 4 bands, and he held it together quite well (at least until after he played... then he was a wreck).

Grant, how is calling people a pussy on the internet compelling? There were a lot of hot girls there? C'mon man.

I had a couple people try to get me to go to King Khan last night, one of whom may have been one of those "cute garage rock girls" you're talking about, but I couldn't since we were already having a show at my house. Decisions, decisions!

It is true, though, that hashbrowns can cure even the mightiest of hangovers.

Nope. Right here. I was only there for Foscil. HLAK sucks.

Great that you didn't see a blog comment coming though. You, totally for the win.

The crowd at King Khan sucked! There were plenty of great looking girls but, for the most part, they weren't "garage rock girls", they were a bunch of trendy fucking posers. I was excited, at first, by the explosion of the garage rock scene but now it's just full of bro's and ho's and other fucks. There was more people moshing than dancing. Ugh.

Yeah. Animals at Night were really good. Foscil killed it, too. Head Like a Kite brought out the fuzzy animal costumes. Looked like a japanamation zoo. Really fun.
