Any one heard of signing your name? I like it that people will insult people and then not sign there name. Thats like yelling at someone as you pass by in your car. At least what ever was said from stage, was by someone willing to own up to what ever he said/did that day. We all know who he is and where he is. I love him for what he does. MCD, keep doing what you do. Grandy, keep writing what you write.
Putting your self out there is tough as fuck and I respect all that are willing to put there neck on the line.
#47 - Annoyed Bear. Sasquatch was good. NIN always plays to jocks, as does any other band making a living playing heavy music these days. a) Bands don't pick their fans, and b) What is wrong with jocks? I like people from Scotland.

There were some amazing performances this weekend. If you missed them, too bad. Not every set is going to be a winner. Go see something else if you think it is starting to suck. That's really the only redeeming thing about giant festivals like this anyway - if you don't like what you see, chances are you can walk 500 yards and see something else. You might not like it, but at least it will be different. Ditto on Mike Watt and Sun Kil Moon. They killed it. MCD was awesome, and if you go to the link that this Paige lady posted, you'll see that Spencer apologized to her.

It was awesome that Moody fucked with the crowd. Better that than no crowd interaction whatsoever. Punk rock and hardcore have a tradition of violent and antisocial behavior - bands and fans alike. It's where stage diving, spitting at the band, and fighting/moshing became popular. Once again, if you don't like it, then leave.

Champagne Champagne killed it. Jane"s Addiction killed it. BLK JKS killed it. Erykah Badu killed it. Monotonix killed it, if you were close enough to see it. Stop whining about which bands sucked. You just chose the wrong bands to see.

@#73... "On the drive home, these non-hipster lads expressed their disappointment in the overall experience, as much as they loved most of the music. Apparently, they had watched a lot of footage and read books about rock/punk/indie events of days gone by, and had come with romantic notions of something unpredictable, earth-shaking and dangerous happening at their first rock festival. What they got instead, they said, was a lot of really talented bands playing to hoards of "rich suburban kids with their daddies' cars who may as well have been at a church picnic."

I'm sorry, but this should be a no brainer to anyone going to a concert at the Gorge. And it's your job as someone a little older to scoop them on the real music scene. You want to go to a real punk/indie show where you might see something unpredictable, forget the rock festivals and big clubs and check out Funhouse, The Bit, The Morgue, The Galway, The Viaduct, Josephine or Holy Mountain. Massive corporations and nation-wide booking companies will give you the complete opposite of dangerous.

#73 - Sid Vicious is not punk rock. He was nothing more than a wannabe never was, ridiculed by even his own bandmates. Much like ... ?

Many years ago I saw Johnny Thunders at the Whiskey in L.A. so strung out that he was playing completely different songs than his backup band. It was something to talk about, but ultimately so sad. Much like ... ?

By the way, anyone who goes to Sasquatch or Bumbershoot or Warped Tour without KNOWING that it is a corporate rock event is missing the entire point. I saw most of the Mainstage acts on Sunday, and MCD were definitely the bottom of the heap musically, albeit amusing in a voyeuristic way. In response to #60, I thought Jane's Addiction put on a much better show than I expected. And in a few weeks, I'll bet that The Germs with the actor-singer replacing their waste-case will be similarly enthralling.

@71, in many ways your negative comments and jabs are more disturbing than Sunday's spectacle. You have made a conscious choice to send the negativity out there, and I just don't understand why. I shoot for free for Ice Cream Man, any one that knows Matt or me or the rest of the crew knows the good work we do and the positive vibe we cultivate.

Spencer took responsibility for assaulting me (those are his words, not mine) and called me to apologize this afternoon. I accepted his apology, and at my request he posted a public apology and made a donation to an animal rescue organization I volunteer with, House Rabbit Society. He also added "if any one gives you a hard time feel free to direct them to me."
@72 -- Kerri, you're still my hero, ever since meeting you on the bus in Bothell in '84, a bleached, spiky-haired high school kid with the words "Sid Lives" written on a piece of masking tape taped to the front of your black trench coat. Seems you continue recognize the unlikely prophets in our midst, people who despite the ungraceful and unbeautiful ways they have of articulating themselves, somehow manage to get us to take a look at ourselves and maybe reconsider the bullshit and lies we may live.

I went to Sasquatch with a few friends, some 19-yr-old guys from California who are young enough to be my own kids. We were elsewhere during the MCD show. On the drive home, these non-hipster lads expressed their disappointment in the overall experience, as much as they loved most of the music. Apparently, they had watched a lot of footage and read books about rock/punk/indie events of days gone by, and had come with romantic notions of something unpredictable, earth-shaking and dangerous happening at their first rock festival. What they got instead, they said, was a lot of really talented bands playing to hoards of "rich suburban kids with their daddies' cars who may as well have been at a church picnic." As non-eloquent as Spencer may have been in his inebriated proclamations (and as much as he's now responsibly owning up to any damage he caused), perhaps, had my friends seen that show they would have at least applauded his willingness to shake things up a bit, to bring rock & roll back into the realm of uncomfortable.

Hope you still wear that piece of tape on your coat, Kerri.
#62 Phil-I too have friends who are photographers who do what they do out of love and fandom. Sadly, it was Paige's own words that clearly stated the opposite "...and preferably do it to a fan who chose to be there, rather than to a photographer who’s just doing her job."

It is a constant challenge not to become jaded and mistrusting. And her whole rolling with the act while it was fun and taking her pictures, but then later deciding that she should convince people that she was some sort of a victim, I find appalling. Not only because women already have a hard enough time being believed when they are actually assaulted, but like I said before, it really comes across as an easy way to plug her work. I haven't been able to read a Sasquatch review without her plugging her photoblog somewhere in the comments.

*sigh* But I really do try to focus on the good in people, I swear.

@60 - I agree that Moody's rant was highly reminiscent of the old-school punk shows that I cut my teeth on in high school. MCD was a pleasant surprise in a lineup that included a lot of bands that I had hoped to see 20 years ago when I was in high school.

My buddy and I made the roadtrip from MT for the show, and he looked at me after the Moody's second wind and said "There are a lot of people here who needed to hear that." I agree with him completely. I'm straight but wasn't offended, cause I knew he wasn't talking to me.

No one has commented on Moody's pre-set ramble about going to Lalapalooza in 1991 to see Jane's... This year's lineup included some golden oldies for the older set, for which I'm thankful. The classics got me to buy the ticket and I experienced a bunch of new bands that I'd have never sought out. Thanks Sasquatch.
